Busy Weekend on the Road Ahead for Bucknell Wrestling

The Bucknell wrestling team will wrap up a stretch of eight consecutive dual matches away from Davis Gym this weekend when it competes at George Mason Friday evening, and Sunday at Oklahoma State against the host Cowboys and Binghamton. Sunday's duals will be particularly difficult as Oklahoma State is ranked No. 2, according to Intermat, and No. 1 in the NWCA/USA Today Coaches Poll. Binghamton is No. 22 in the Intermat poll and No. 19 in the NWCA/USA Today ranking.

  • Bucknell Wrestling Falls Short in Upset Bid at No. 13 Lehigh, 25-15

    The Bucknell wrestling team led No. 13 Lehigh by four points with three bouts remaining, but the Mountain Hawks posted two major decisions and a forfeit victory in the three heaviest weight classes to come back and defeat the Bison by a 25-15 margin Saturday afternoon at Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall. Austin Miller, John Regan, Corey Lear and Stephen McPeek posted wins for Bucknell, which was facing its second top-15 opponent this season.

    Bucknell Wrestling to Face No. 13 Lehigh Saturday in Bethlehem

    The Bucknell wrestling team will continue its extended road trip Saturday when it tries to end a five-match losing streak with a 2 p.m. meeting with No. 13 Lehigh. The event will take place at the Mountain Hawks' Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall and will be broadcast in the Lehigh Valley on ESPN Radio 1230 and 1320. Additionally, a video broadcast will be available for a small charge through LehighSports.com.

  • Bucknell Wrestling Loses Three Close Matches at Virginia Duals

    Two matches weren't decided until the final bout and another was still in doubt entering the 197-pound weight class, but the Bucknell wrestling team posted an 0-3 record Friday at the Virginia Duals. The Bison lost to Buffalo, 19-13, The Citadel, 21-16, and Drexel, 20-17. Bucknell (2-10) led the Bulldogs 16-6 and the Dragons 17-10 before both opponents clinched victories with wins at the heavier weight classes.

Bucknell lost for the second consecutive time after a two-match losing streak and fell to 2-7 this season. The Monarchs improved to 5-4 as they snapped a three-match losing streak.

The Bison will have a minimum of four dual matches in a four-day span thanks to a road matchup at Old Dominion on Wednesday and at least three matches at the Virginia Duals on Friday and Saturday.

  • Bucknell Wrestling’s Corey Lear Wraps Up Competition at Midlands Championships

    Bucknell junior wrestler Corey Lear (Orangeville, Pa./Benton Area) entered Friday's second day of the 49th Annual Midlands Championships one win shy of a top-eight finish in the 165-pound weight class. Wrestling in the consolation bracket, Lear lost his only bout of the day by a 9-4 decision to Iowa's Mike Evans, who was seeded eighth.

    Bucknell wrestlers combined for 14 individual victories Thursday on the first day of the 49th Annual Midlands Championships, hosted by Northwestern, but only junior 165-pounder Corey Lear will advance to the second day of competition as he posted a 3-1 mark and stands one victory shy of guaranteeing a top-eight placing.
